Biobanking in Europe - “Optimising the use of population and patient cohorts”

Event Date:
Wednesday, January 27, 2016 - 16:30

BioSHaRE-EU, BBMRI-LPC and BBMRI-ERIC jointly organize a strategic meeting “Optimising the use of population and patient cohorts” at the European Parliament in Brussels on January 27th, 2016 from 15:30-17:30.

Find the program and presentations here.

In this meeting we will present you the latest advancements in biobanking research and show how it acts as excellent test case to tackle hurdles for international data sharing on  privacy, data security, open access, valorization of data, eScience and more.

The meeting will be hosted by Ms. Schreijer-Pierik, member of European Parliament, who will highlight the Dutch and European contribution to biobanking infrastructure and research and how it calls to the aims of H2020.

The leaders of the organizing partners will present the state-of-the-art of biobanking research and initiate a discussion on the next steps to be taken. Professor Ronald Stolk will present the results of the BioSHaRE-EU project (Biobank Standardisation and Harmonisation for Research Excellence in the European Union) that was completed in 2015, and Dr. Markus Perola will give an update on the ongoing BBMRI-LPC project (Large Prospective Cohorts).

The results of these projects are put in European perspective by Professor Jan-Eric Litton, who will link these projects to the aims and work plans of BMMRI-ERIC.

Last but not least, Dr. Augusto Burgueño Arjona, Head of Unit e-Infrastructure at European Commission DG CONNECT will discuss the progress in eScience and give his opinion on how to put the BioSHaRE output and biobanking research in the “cloud”.

The last part of the meeting will be dedicated to a discussion on how to optimise the use of population and patient cohorts and what the researcher needs for that.

We warmly welcome all EP and EC members, staff of the relevant DG’s, liaison officers and anyone who would like to discuss how to Optimise the use of population and patient cohorts – what does the investigator need?

With kind regards,

Ronald Stolk, coordinator BioSHaRE-EU

Markus Perola, coordinator BBMRI-LPC

Jan-Eric Litton, BBMRI-ERIC Director General
